The "Dirty Dozen"

Have you heard of the "dirty dozen?" I didn't until just recently when I received a health email linking me up to http://www.preventcancer.com/consumers/general/dirty_dozen.htm. I didn't realize that many commonly used household and food products contained unlabeled and labeled carcinogenic ingredients.

The Dirty Dozen according to the Cancer Prevention Coalition are...
  1. Beef Frankfurters - (eg. Oscar Mayer Foods Corporation)
  2.  Whole Milk - (eg. Borden or Lucern)
  3.  Talcum Powder- (Johnson & Johnson. Inc.)
  4.  Cover Girl Replenishing Natural Finish Make Up (Foundation) (Procter & Gamble. Inc.)
  5.  Crest Tartar Control Toothpaste - (Procter & Gamble. Inc.)
  6. Alberto VO5 Conditioner (Essence of Neutral Henna) (Alberto-Culver USA. Inc.)
  7. Clairol Nice 'n Easy (Permanent Haircolor) (Clairol. Inc.)
  8. Ajax Cleanser (Colgate-Palmolive. Inc.)

  9. Zud Heavy Duty Cleanser (Reckitt & Colman. Inc.)
  10. Lysol Disinfectant Spray (Reckitt & Colman. Inc.)
  11. Zodiac Cat & Dog Flea Collar (Sandoz Agro. Inc).
  12. Ortho Weed-B-Gon Lawn Weed Killer (Monsanto Co.)
Of the 12 items listed, I highlighted in red the 8 ITEMS that I have used in the past (some more often than others). Growing up, we always used Ajax when cleaning the bathroom. And I have used more Lysol since Eli was born than I would like to admit. And I've been giving Eli whole milk loaded with r-BGH since he turned 1 (I didn't give him a drop of formula until he was 1 and then I let him down chemically-laden whole milk??? What is wrong with me?).

Am I the only one who reads articles like this and wants to move to the country, grow my own food, and never use anything that has been processed ever again?

Is it too late to become Amish?

  1. I feel the same way, Kristina! We could start our own non-Amish-Amish compound!
