When I was in college, I had oreo truffles for the first time. (Thank you, Heather Gannon.) However, I had never tried to make them before. Since we were planning on going to a Super Bowl party at my parents' house, I decided to try my hand at them. I got the recipe from
Bakerella, but I really wanted to try her
football recipe (I wimped out at the last minute).

| I started with an entire package of Oreo cookies. It took me forever to get it this fine because I have a terrible food processor. I did most of it by hand. I left a few chunks because I got tired. HOWEVER, it is incredibly important to get the Oreos to be this fine. The finer it is crushed, the better it tastes. |
 |
| After mixing the Oreos with 1 block of softened cream cheese, I used a scoop to estimate 1" size balls. Then I rolled them up tightly. At this point, I wish I had stuck them in the freezer to hold them together tighter. |
 |
| Attempting to dip the truffles in the white chocolate was difficult! I just didn't have the right tools for this recipe. Before I make this again, I have to get some candy dipping tools! |
Anyway, the verdict on this recipe is that it is AMAZING. My husband, who hates candy, loved these! It made for a special treat for the Super Bowl party that we didn't get to go to because Eli was sick with his first ear infection.

| Failed attempt - he was really sick. Poor, pitiful thing. |
Happy snow day, Nashville!

ReplyDeleteSo if you freeze them you don't need candy dipping tools! Freeze them or refrigerate overnight so they get hard. Then use a toothpick on the bottom of them. It will stay in there. Dip in the chocolate. Then if you use a fork - the toothpick will slide between the tines and you can have a flat surface to set it on then slide it onto the wax paper. Its pretty simple!
